Winter Fun For Kids At The Evansville Museum

EDIBLE SCIENCE

Yummy! In this workshop students will learn how to make delicious treats, beverages, and personal care products – all while learning some incredible science concepts! Each student will chewing gum, root beer, and lip balm. Edible Science will be taught by Mitch Luman, the George and Dorothy Eykamp Director of the Koch Science Center and Planetarium. Maximum 20 students.

TODDLER THURSDAYS

Bring your toddler to the Museum the first Thursday of each month, and enjoy storytime along with an activity related to items in our collection. Toddles ages 2-3 are welcome to participate in this admission-free program along with an adult. All Toddler Thursdays will begin at 10:30am and last approximately 45 minutes.

DAKRI SINCLAIR WORKSHOPS

Bring your child to the Museum to experience and create through the unique style of local artist, Dakri Sinclair! Sinclair will offer art workshops exploring Expressionism, Impressionism, and Surrealism for children ages 7-12 years old on three Saturdays: February 11th, March 10th, and April 14th. You can register for one or all three. Register your child for all three workshops by Wednesday, February 8th, and pay only $215 (Member) or $230 (Non-Member)! A snack and drink are included with each workshop.      

EXPRESSIONISM

Learn about the dramatic world of Expressionism through an introduction to famous artists and their             work, then create your own artistic interpretations based on what you see! Students will learn       techniques and create work inspired by Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Kirchner, and Pollock using paint,      brushes, pastels, glue, fabric, wood, scissors, markers, pencils, and more! Maximum 12 students.

IMPRESSIONISM

Jump into the world of Impressionism by looking a several famous Impressionist artists and examining             their work, then create your own interpretations of what you see. Students will create art inspired by             Monet, Degas, Renior, and Cassatt using acrylic and watercolor paints, paper, sponges, pastels,    brushes, glue, q-tips, pipe cleaners, scissors and more! Maximum 12 students.

SURREALISM

Explore the amazing world of Surrealism by looking at several famous artists and examining their work, then create your own interpretations of their world based on what you see. You will learn techniques   and create art inspired by Dali, Miro, Oppenheim, and Khalo using paint, paper, magazines, glue, color   pencils, brushes, scissors, crayons, markers, textures, tape, and more! Maximum 12 students.

FINE ART CLASS

Join local artist and art instructor Cynthia Watson to explore art concepts and create original works of art beginning in April. Cynthia encourages self-discovery and hopes to instill a life-long interest in producing art and showing it off to friends and family! The curriculum introduces students to beginner and intermediate techniques in drawing and painting, as well as studying line, shape, color, texture, perspective, shading, and space. Students will use a variety of mediums including acrylics and watercolors, among others. Maximum 12 students.

DISCOVERY DAY

Follow the Drinking Gourd is presented in conjunction with our Black History Month programs. Learn how slaves used a special song to lead them North to freedom by following the stars. After the Planetarium show, make a starfinder to help you find the North Star! Parents are welcome to participate. Come join us!

Winter/Spring Classes For Adults At The Evansville Museum

ADULT PAINTING STUDIO

Let’s “cut loose” with local artist and art instructor Connie Bell! Bell encourages students to experiment during this casual painting class with both subject matter and media. Students are welcome to use oil or acrylic paints to create 3-5 paintings over the course of eight weeks. The workshop focuses on Ms. Bell’s personal belief that artists should remember to “paint what you feel, and don’t be afraid.” While drawing skills are helpful, above-average skills are not required. Maximum 11 students

WHAT WE KNOW NOW

How much has changed in astronomy since you were in high school? Here’s a class that provides astronomical information tailored for people over 60. We’ll cover all the important findings that occurred in space science and astronomy since you were a kid. Learn the truth behind the elimination of Pluto as a planet as well and the many different ways our view of the Universe has changed. Presented by Mitch Luman, the George and Dorothy Eykamp Director of the Koch Science Center and Planetarium. Maximum 25 students.

OIL PAINTING INTENSIVE

Join local artist and realist painter, Michael Bartholomew, for a six week oil painting class, beginning April 5. In this evening class, Bartholomew will teach students accurate drawing using the grid method, mixing the right color every time, understanding hue, value and chroma, and applying varnishes and painting mediums. Students will also explore additional painting methods including Grisaille Underpainting, Glazing, Alla Prima techniques, and more! INTRODUCTION TO YOGA

This class is for those who are new to yoga as well as continuing students who are looking to refine their experience of the core poses. Taught by Andrea Wannemuehler, the classes will emphasize standing poses, basic sun salutations, gentle backbends and twists, and preparations for inversions. Classes focus on developing, strength, flexibility, and ease in the body in order to quiet the mind. Maximum 15 students.

FINE ART CLASS

Join local artist Cynthia Watson for some art, friendship and fun! Learn how to create your own masterpiece in a relaxed yet stimulating environment. Watson focuses on individualization while teaching core principles including perspective, value and composition, as well as color mixing and shading. Each student will choose his or her medium and subject matter. Watson will discuss supplies during her first session. Beginner and intermediate students are encouraged to let creative juices flow in this inspiring atmosphere! Maximum 12 students.
